Wabeno!

I had an invite to visit a FAB Lab today!  What a great idea.  Young students in high school or just before can explore the intersection between such things as manufacturing, technology, business and society by leveraging different approaches to the use of this lab.

NOT Wabeno, but I had to pull over and walk a fence line to take this shot! Near Damascus, VA It had snowed in the morning and by late afternoon only snow in the mountains was left... beautiful.

OK, back to Wabeno - a charming little town.  They even have a tank!

Oooo, I wonder who has the better Paul Bunyan, Woodruff or Wabeno?

Now here's something pretty interesting.  This is a steam driven log-hauler built in 1901.  It had a track trive and two skis up front to steer through the ice and snow. This little loco pulled multiple sleighs piled high with logs to a rail head where the logs were then transported to a mill.  By the way this 18 ton contraption could make 100 HP and pull those sleighs at a brisk 8 mph!

Free admission to any traveler...
Another beautiful sunny day on the second day of spring. Hope you like the pics!

Where Tennessee meets Virginia

So many interesting places to see!  Bristol is a city that shares its main street (State Street) with Virginia and Tennessee.  It's home to some NASCAR greats too.

Some unique architecture...

Ahhh Tennessee on your right, Virginia to your left!

The city has managed to save many older structures.  This Deco theater is a gem!

Bristol makes a big claim to be the birthplace of Country Music

A sleepy Saturday afternoon in March...

Remember to set your clocks ahead an hour tonight!
Tomorrow a little hiking on on of the trails

Rare glimpse into automobile restoration perfection

Life is full of twists and turns and I have to say if your of the right mind and the good Lord favors you,  you can come upon the most amazing things!

recent travels...

It all started out with the common trek to some airport in some city.  This time after a few canceled flights (That's YOU Delta!) I trekked through MSP and wow.. not the usual ORD piano player here!

Look at the door handles and the sweep back to the tail fin.... This is art taken from the clay, hammered into sheet metal without a solid model by REAL craftsmen!

This Galaxie is AMAZING

Buckle up!

Yup, it's still wintery but hold on... what's that Hemi Dodge doing over there?

One of my friends fromlong ao had a K5 Blazer based on the '72.  This frame off is unlike anything I've had the good fortune to see.

This is the underside of the C-10 and it's better then new(I Mean I was a GM engineer... it's better than brand new all these years later)

Thunderbird valve covers on the Galaxie

A '57 Chevy 2-door with the rare dual air set up.

Oh my... what a trip back intime!

A '57 Chevy with factory fuel injection.... Ponder that for a bit...

My first car was a Pontiac. This is a beautiful car!

Another GTO

When I was a child my dad always bought Chevy's.  This is the dash of the '63 Impala.  I remember riding in the middle, and watching traffic go by across the UP on the road trips!  Memories!

A super F-1.  I hope my '47 Studebaker turns our half as good.

Private collection and what a treat!
